Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) is one of the newest forms of minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and other forms of vein disease. EVLA offers patients extremely high success rates while necessitating less anesthesia and fewer injections than many traditional treatments. This treatment utilizes ultrasound to create a map of the abnormal vein. Once this vein is identified, a very small catheter bearing a thin laser is inserted into the vessel. The laser generates a controlled amount of heat, sealing the vein and allowing blood to be redirected to healthier vessels. While a small amount of bruising may occur, there are few side effects associated with EVLA. Most patients are highly satisfied with their results.
