November 19, 2013. Bergen County, NJ. The Chuback Medical Group is announcing the release of a new article on their website that discusses the ways in which varicose veins can affect an individual’s health. According to the Bergen County, NJ based vein center, varicose veins may cause numerous symptoms, including pain and swollen legs and ankles. The center hopes the information it provides will encourage the public to seek treatment.
According to Dr. John Chuback, leading vein doctor at the Chuback Medical Group, swollen legs and ankles may be caused by a backflow of blood in the veins. “Varicose veins are often caused by venous insufficiency, a condition in which blood pools backwards rather than traveling upstream to the heart. As fluids give in to gravity, swollen legs and ankles can result.” If left untreated, health complications such as deep vein thrombosis may result.
Dr. Chuback’s new article outlines several other health conditions that can arise from varicose veins, including a higher risk of leg ulceration. Individuals are encouraged to seek treatment in order to avoid such complications
More articles and information on varicose veins, swollen legs and ankles, and other vascular issues can be found on the center’s website.

Varicose Vein Treatment Options
Abnormal veins, such as varicose and spider veins, affect nearly half of the adult population in the United States. Spider veins are little veins near the skin’s surface that resemble reddish tree branches or spider’s legs. Larger, bulging veins that are more bluish in color are called varicose veins. Varicose veins affect both men and women, but they occur more frequently in women.
There are many choices today for effectively treating varicose veins. Advances in medical technology have led to alternative treatments to surgery that are fast, virtually pain-free, and require little to no recovery time. Endovenous laser treatment, sclerotherapy, and ambulatory phlebectomy are all options for current treatment.
